The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team rallied to defeat Wyalusing 2-1 on Senior Night on Thursday.
After a scoreless first half the Lady Rams scored midway through the 2nd to put themselves on top. Wellsboro rallied to tie the game up with 16:40 remaining on a goal from freshman Haylie Smith, assisted by senior Lilah Parades.
Sophomore Luna Moyer scored the go-ahead goal, assisted by senior Lily Wagner, with 2:38 left in the game.
"When we went down in the second half, our girls dug deep and refused to back down," head coach Michael Reese said. "They fought with heart, they fought with grit, and they came storming back with two unanswered goals. Every single player emptied the tank tonight, and that's what made this senior night so special."
Wyalusing edged Wellsboro 11-9 in shot attempts, however the Lady Hornets had a commanding 11-1 advantage in corner kicks. Junior Jadyn Dunlap made 10 saves in goal.
In the JV game, Wellsboro won 1-0 with a goal from Dunlap with 4:41 left to play in the game. Both teams had 3 shots on goal. Sophomore Carly Blackwell recorded 3 saves.
The Lady Hornets improve to 10-5 (8-4 NTL). The team is back in action at rival North Penn-Mansfield on Tuesday.
