Lady Hornets Beat Out NEB For Senior Night Win

The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Track team defeated Northeast Bradford 80-70 to capture a win on Senior Night on Tuesday, April 22.

"I have a very small senior crew this year, but I can't complain," head coach Elizabeth Hoover said. "Annie is a three year state qualifier in triple jump. Paige is a dual sort athlete and splits her time between track and softball. Karah has returned after taking a year off and works hard in all of her events. Marissa is participating for the first time ever as a senior. I have a great group, and they will be missed next year."

Sophomore Piper Hoprich took 1st in both the 100m (12.29), with freshman Luna Moyer (13.49) in 3rd, and the 200m (25.78) with junior Evelyn Wetherbee (29.77) coming home in 4th. Sophomore Lauren Kosek was 2nd in the 400m (1:08.79) and 2nd in the 800m (2:34.16), freshman Luisa Crocco (6:56.66) was 4th in the 1600m, and Kosek won the 3200m (12:20.61). Freshman Jennifer Belz was 3rd in the 100m hurdles (18.17) and freshman Isla Twoey was 2nd in the 300m hurdles (53.14).

Wellsboro won the 4x100m relay in 54.27 and was 2nd in the 4x400m (4:35.06) and the 4x800m (12:42.53).

The Lady Hornets swept the high jump with senior Annie Gehman (5-ft), junior Kristina Belz (4-ft, 6) and junior Olivia Gage (4-ft, 4) taking the top 3 spots, junior Megan Mosher (7-ft), sophomore Ellie Largey (7-ft), and junior Brooke Wheeler (6-ft) swept the pole vault, Gehman (15-ft, 2.25), Kristina Belz (14-ft, 10) and Twoey (14-ft, 6) swept the long jump, and Twoey (33-ft, 6.75), Gehman (33-ft, 4.5) and sophomore Ella Boyce (29-ft, 11) swept the triple jump.

Freshmen Aileen Bowers (25-ft, 9) and Katie Whitney (25-ft, 7) were 2nd and 3rd in the shot put, Whitney (74-ft, 5) and freshman Serenity Mosher (62-ft, 8) were 2nd and 4th in the discus, and junior Taylor Main (82-ft, 5) won the javelin with sophomore Reese Regina (67-ft, 10.5) finishing 4th.

The team is at the LHU Classic Invite on Saturday.
