The Wellsboro Girls Wrestling team dropped their home-opening match to Towanda, 54-18, on Thursday, January 16.
Wellsboro started strong as freshman Isla Twoey pinned Hailey Harbst at 100 lbs. to give the Lady Hornets are quick 6-0 lead, however Towanda won the next match at 106 lbs. by forfeit to tie things up. Junior Jordan Rumsey put Wellsboro back in front with a pin against Natalyn Morris at 112 lbs., but again the Lady Knights answered quickly tied the match back up.
Sophomore Kaelyn Peterson won the third and final match for Wellsboro on the evening, a forfeit at 124 lbs. Towanda then took the next 7 of 8 matches to claim victory.
There was no match at 142 lbs.
The loss drops Wellsboro to 0-4. The team is back in action at Muncy on Monday.
