Senior Jacoby Strang scored a pair of goals to help the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team rally from their first loss of the season in a 3-0 shut out against rival North Penn-Liberty Thursday.
Strang scored with 29:11 remaining in the first half to put the Hornets up 2-nil, then later struck just under 10 minutes into the second half to push the lead to 3-0. Senior Jonathan Carl assisted on both of Strang's goals.
Senior Cameron Owlett scored the game's first goal six minutes in off an assist from senior Mason Nowak.
"We're having to navigate an onslaught of injuries and we're needing boys to step into unfamiliar roles on the field," said head coach Todd Fitch. Regardless, the team put together a strong performance tonight stringing passes together, denying Liberty opportunities, and keeping a clean sheet."
The Hornets out shot the Mounties 7-3 on the afternoon. Both teams had three corners kicks apiece. Senior Camden Tom and junior Kayden Rogers both made one save each to combine for the shut out.
Wellsboro's JV team improved to 3-0 on the season following a 3-1 win over the Mounties. Freshman Liam Stevens recorded a hat trick and freshman Maddon Mascho made one assist.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 4-1 (2-1 NTL). The team travels to Milton on Saturday for a non-league game.
