Central Columbia made the long trek up to Tioga County Monday evening and handed the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team a 50-23 loss and ended the Hornets' playoff hopes.
The Bluejays held the Hornets to under 10 points in each quarter. They took a 14-8 lead after the opening quarter, then went on an 18-5 to build a 32-13 lead at the half. Central posted another 10-plus point differential in the third quarter, as they outscored Wellsboro 14-4, to push the lead to 46-17 heading into the final quarter.
Cameron Humphreys led all scorers on the night with 13 points.
Senior Mitchel Lechler and junior Luke Rothermel led Wellsboro with 7 points each, freshman Ransom Schultz added 4 points, sophomore Ethan Keane chipped in 3 points and junior Marek Mascho rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
Schultz had 5 rebounds and a steal, freshman Griffin Morral made 4 assists and grabbed 2 rebounds, and junior Jonathan Carl and Rothermel both grabbed 4 boards apiece. Mascho also made 3 steals.
Wellsboro won the JV game 52-36 to improve to 15-7 on the season. Sophomore Gideon Lawton scored 17 points in the win and Morral added 11.
The loss ends Wellsboro's season at 10-12 (9-7 NTL Large School Division).
