The Wellsboro Boys Soccer team's season came to an end after suffering a 3-1 loss to Montoursville in the District IV Class 2A quarterfinals Saturday afternoon.
"We didn't get pressure on the ball, which led to their first goal and their quick back to back goals in the second half happened while we were making some adjustments," head coach Todd Fitch said. "They're a good team and capitalized on our miscues, but I felt we were right there the whole match with opportunities too. The boys never stopped battling. I'm very proud of the resilience of this team throughout the season."
The Warriors took the lead with Cody Marino goal with 12:15 remaining in the 1st half. Midway through the 2nd Montoursville added two more quick goals, one by Bryce Winslow (20:40) and the other by Liam Lucas (20:23) to go up 3-0 over the Hornets.
Wellsboro's lone goal came off a head by freshman Michael Seeling, assisted by freshman freshman Liam Stevens and senior Jonathan Carl, with 18:15 remaining in the game.
Montoursville edged Wellsboro 11-8 in shots on goal. Wellsboro had a slight 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior Camden Tom stopped 7 shots in goal.
Wellsboro ends their season with a 12-6-2 record.
