The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team evened their record up at .500, after their 2nd consecutive win, with a 56-41 win at Wyalusing on Tuesday.
Similar to Saturday against Athens, the Hornets got out to another quick start as they had an 18-10 lead over the Rams after the opening quarter, thanks to 9 points by senior Mitchel Lechler. A 14-point 2nd quarter, which the Hornets scored 12 points from behind the three-point line, increased their lead to 32-17 at halftime.
Both teams scored 24 points in the second half.
Lechler finished with a game-high 13 points to lead Wellsboro while sophomore Colin Fletcher added 12 points and junior Marek Mascho added 10. Freshman Griffin Morral added 9 points, junior Luke Rothermel and freshman Ransom Schultz scored 4 points each while junior Jonathan Carl and sophomore Max Mascho chipped in 2 points apiece.
Rothermel and Carl pulled down 7 rebounds each, Schultz added 5 boards and an assist, Lechler had 3 assists and 3 rebounds, Marek Mascho made 4 assists and 2 steals, and sophomore Ethan Keane had 2 rebounds and 2 assists.
Rothermel and Keane also blocked a shot.
Shay Gartland lead Wyalusing with 9 points.
In the JV game Wellsboro edged Wyalsuing 38-36 behind 11 points from freshman Kody Enck.
The win improves the Hornets to 5-5 overall and 4-2 in the NTL Large School Division standings. Wellsboro hosts Towanda on Thursday.
