Hornet Track Teams Sweep Athens, North Penn In Regular Season Finale

Despite a torrential downpour for the majority of the meet, Wellsboro swept Athens and rival North Penn-Mansfield in their regular season finale on Monday.

The boys team beat North Penn 59.5-27.5 and Athens, 74-13.

The girls defeated North Penn 50-32 and Athens, 62-24.

North Penn-Mansfield also swept Athens, 65-20 in the boys meet and 50-32 in the girls meet.

Due to the weather all field events were cancelled and only 12 events were scored.

For the boys, senior Alex Citrino (12.29) was 2nd in the 100m with junior Aaron Kirk (12.38) in 4th, senior Nathan Morley (28.11) was 14th in the 200m, junior Jonathan Carl (52.94) won the 400m with junior Jacob Baldwin (56.48) tied for 3rd, juniors Max Macias (2:05.40) and Jude Cuneo (2:06.44) were 1st and 2nd in the 800m, and Macias (4:55.07) and junior Henry Whitney (5:00.09) went 1-2 in the 1600m. The duo also finished 1st and 2nd in the 3200m in 11:16.21 and 11:30.77, respectively.

Senior Micah Vickery (16.42) and junior David Seeling (17.02) swept the 100m hurdles. Seeling (43.21) then won the 300m hurdles with Vickey (44.35) finishing behind him in 2nd.

Wellsboro also won two of the three relays, winning the 4x100m (46.70) and the 4x800m (9:54.44). North Penn-Mansfield won the 4x400m (3:45.15) to close out the meet.

In the girls meet, sophomore Piper Hoprich won both the 100m (12.41) and the 200m (26.02) while junior Sophia Yoder (13.55 - 100m, 28.42 - 200m) was 3rd in both events. Sophomore Lauren Kosek was 2nd in the 400m (1:07.29) and swept both the 1600m (5:37.57) and the 3200m (13:03.54) while freshman Molly Tice was 5th in the 800m (3:10.98). Freshman Jennifer Belz won the 100m hurdles (18.34) and freshman Isla Twoey took the 300m hurdles (51.54) with Belz (56.19) in 2nd.

The Lady Hornets also won two of the three relays, taking the 4x100m (53.66) and the 4x400m (4:54.61). North Penn-Mansfield won the 4x800m in 12:02.50.

Both teams are back in action Friday at Athens for the NTL Championships.
