The Wellsboro Boys Soccer teams defeated Galeton to sweep the season series with the Tigers to start their October schedule Wednesday evening.
The Hornets scored a pair of goals in both halves, leading to a 4-1 victory.
"We did a good job switching the field and building the attack into the final third, with four different players finding the back of the net tonight," commented head coach Todd Fitch.
Senior David Seeling opened the scoring just over a minute and a half into the game off an assist from Gabe Cuneo. Eight minutes later junior Jacob Smith scored unassisted to put the Hornets up 2-0.
Senior Jonathan Carl, assisted by Smith, extended Wellsboro's lead to 3-0 less than nine and a half minutes into the start of the second half. Galeton's Corbin Basile scored with 12:24 remaining to break the shut out before junior Peter Doan scored with just over 10 minutes remaining off an assist from senior Jude Cuneo to push the lead back to three at 4-1.
The Hornets out shot the Tigers 12-5 and had a commanding 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior Camden Tom made 3 saves in 61 minutes of work.
In the JV game, Wellsboro shut out the Tigers 4-0. Gage Baltzley kicked off the scoring with a first half goal to put the Hornets in front, then freshman Liam Stevens, sophomore Connor Hartman and freshman Daniel Taboada all scored. Freshman Maddon Mascho assisted on Stevens' goal and sophomore Xavier Lecker assisted on Hartman's goal.
Wellsboro improves to 10-3-1 (8-1-1 NTL). The team hosts Northeast Bradford next Tuesday.
