Senior Annie Gehman made her decision to continue her track & field career at Susquehanna University on Thursday, May 1.

Gehman, a two-time defending District IV Class 2A triple jumper, will be studying psychology in undergrad and plans on getting her doctorate in counseling psychology.

"I'm really big on psychology and I want to go to a good school for psychology and they're like one of the top ranked schools for that," Gehman said. "There was an article that came out about them and how great their psychology department is. That was a big plus for me, and it is close to home. I didn't want to go too far and felt they are a good undergrad school to get that ball rolling."

Susquehanna was recently named as one of the best undergraduate psychology programs by US News.

"It's nice and small, everything is right there. It's super nice there. It's like very Wellsboro-esque."

While Susquehanna was scouting Gehman she was actively learning more about them from good friends, and former Hornets, Mitchell Butler and Kate DeCamp.

"I looked a couple of things up and we went for a visit," added Gehman. "They were the only school I visited. It was the perfect place for me."

Gehman made her campus visit for a recruiting meeting where she met her new coach, captains, and fellow teammates. Gehman has visited Susquehanna three times, once for an indoor meet and twice for outdoor meets.

"The head coach is a lot like Mrs. Hoover, but like a guy version," said Gehman. "He's super chill, super personable, he loves all his players, knows everything about them. It's a big family there."

Wellsboro head coach, and Susquehanna alum, Elizabeth Hoover, along with her son, and Junior High assistant coach Casey, were also influential in Gehman choosing Susquehanna.

"She (Coach Hoover) always talks about it, and it's so great. She wrote me a glowing recommendation letter that really helped a bunch. She's a big role model for me, so with her going there it really locked it in, like this is my place. Casey, my dad and I also had a two hour talk about Susquehanna and that was really just like the lock for me."

Coach Hoover praised Gehman's impact on the Wellsboro program.

"Annie is a 4 year varsity letter winner in Track and Field. As a freshman she dominated in the long, triple, high jumps, and 4x100m relay. Her commitment to this team has earned her the MVP award for the past three years as the top point-getter and state qualifier in the triple jump. She is a dedicated member of this team who is always willing to help others with her knowledge of her events. Annie has a competitive spirit that has inspired those around her to do better. She has cemented her legacy here at Wellsboro, and I can't wait to see what she accomplishes at Susquehanna University!"
