The Athens Lady Wildcats scored in double-digits for three of four quarters to down the Lady Hornets, 56-26, on Saturday, February 1.
Athens outscored Wellsboro 14-4 to start the game then posted a 17-7 second quarter to build a 31-11 lead at the half. Athens outscored the Lady Hornets 25-15 to push the lead to 30 as the game came to a close.
Senior Chloe Brandenburg led Wellsboro with 12 points, 4 rebounds and a block while freshman Adelyn Frantz had 8 points and 2 rebounds. Senior Paige Logsdon finished with 6 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocked shots, and freshman Teagan Novinger rounded out the scoring with 2 points. She also added 8 boards and 2 blocked shots.
Junior Lily Wagner chipped in with 2 assists and a rebound.
Addy Wheeler led all scorers with 20 points while McKenna Jarvis (13) and Alissa Vough (10) also finished in double figures.
In the JV game Wellsboro edged out Athens 27-22 to improve to 6-7 on the season. Novinger led the team with 8 points while freshman Kate Bryant added 7 points.
Wellsboro is back on the court Tuesday night at Wyalusing.
