Athens Scores Once In First Half To Shut Out Wellsboro

A penalty kick from Athens' Delanie Patton a little over five minutes into the game lifted the Lady Wildcats past Wellsboro, 1-0 on Monday evening.

The win ties the season series between the two teams.

"I was really pleased with our effort," head coach Michael Reese said. "We created a couple great chances but couldn't quite put one away. I'm especially proud of how we bounced back after a tough hand ball call so early in the match and kept competing until the end."

Athens took 11 shots on goal to Wellsboro's 5 and had a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

Junior Jadyn Dunlap made 10 saves in goal for the Lady Hornets.

Both teams played to a 0-0 draw in the JV game with freshman Brooke Hamblin making 5 saves in goal.

Wellsboro (9-5, 7-4 NTL) host Wyalusing on Thursday to celebrate Senior Night.
