The Wellsboro Junior High Soccer team suffered their first loss of the season as they were edged out 4-3 by Williamson on Monday, September 16.
"It was a back and forth game that ended with us not being able to control the game like we usually do," head coach Derek Stevens said. "Our communication on the field allowed Williamson to come back to beat us tonight."
Liam Stevens put the young Hornets up early with a goal 44 seconds into the contest, then Haylie Smith scored from a pass by Stevens in the 7th minutes, putting Wellsboro ahead 2-0. Williamson cut the lead in half in the 12th minute. Wellsboro increased the lead back to 3-1 on an Evan Rawson goal in the 22nd minute, assisted by Smith, before Williamson added their second goal with just over a minute left to play in the half.
Williamson tied the game up at 3-all 14 minutes into the second half, then scored the game-winner with 7:26 remaining.
Both teams recorded 10 shots on goal and Samuel Jackson had 6 saves in goal.
Williamson won the B game 1-0.
The loss drops Wellsboro to 4-1. The team is back in action Saturday at Athens.
