Wellsboro's Junior High Soccer team improved to 4-0 on the young season with a 7-2 defeat of Athens on Saturday, September 14.

"We came ready to play our game, passing and constant pressure really gave us a lot of opportunities," head coach Derek Stevens said. "The team is coming together, our defense is sturdy and our offense is relentless in their attack."

The young Hornets opened the match with a goal, not even two minutes in, from Haylie Smith off a Gage Baltzley pass. 10 minutes later Wellsboro added their second goal from Callen Novak, assisted by Liam Stevens to make it a 2-0 game.

Athens cut the lead in half, however Stevens pushed the lead back to two (3-1) with a goal in the 18th minute from a Baltzley assist.

Wellsboro added four more goals in the second half, two by Stevens to complete his hat trick, one by Hunter Frazier and the final one from Jackson Largey. James Doughtie and Baltzley assisted on Stevens' goals while Daniel Taboada assisted on Frazier's goal. Largey scored unassisted.

In the B game both teams tied at 3-3. Frazier scored unassisted and Braydyn Lehman scored a pair of goals. Dylan Rogers added an assist and Maddon recorded 2 saves.

The Hornets return to the field on Monday at Williamson.
