The Wellsboro Varsity Volleyball team continued their perfect run to start the 2024 season by defeating Athens 3-1 on Thursday, September 12.
Athens opened the match winning the first set 25-18, however Wellsboro rallied and won the next three sets.
Wellsboro took the second set 25-12, held off Athens 27-25 in the third set, then claimed a 25-15 win in the fourth.
Sophomore Ellie Largey led Wellsboro with 15 points (2 aces) and 15 assists, senior Lexi Urena had 10 kills, 12 points (2 aces) and 11 digs, senior Paige Logsdon had 11 kills, 9 points, 5 aces and 4 assisted blocks, and sophomore Blake Eckart made 6 kills.
Junior Taylor Main scored 12 points (1 ace) and made 14 digs and 10 assists, freshman Peyton Keane had 3 assisted blocks, and sophomore Madison Cruttenden recorded 27 digs.
Athens won the JV game 2-1 (25-19, 22-25, 15-10).
Wellsboro (6-0, 5-0 NTL Large School Division) takes on Williamsport Saturday.
