The Wellsboro Boys Basketball team suffered their 2nd straight loss, falling 52-37 in a non-league game to Montoursville on Saturday, December 21.
The Hornets turned the ball over 22 times in the game.
Both teams struggled to score early on as Montoursville held a 7-3 lead after the opening quarter. However, the Warriors began to pull away from Wellsboro thanks to a 19-point 2nd quarter to build a 26-13 lead at the half.
Wellsboro closed the gap down to 9 points after the 3rd quarter as they outscored Montoursville 15-11 coming out of the intermission, but the Warriors regrouped to outscore Wellsboro 15-9 in the final frame.
Elias Eck (14) and Kingston Fisher (13) led Montoursville.
Senior Mitchel Lechler led the Hornets with a game-high 15 points while sophomore Ethan Keane and junior Jonathan Carl had 7 points each. Junior Marek Mascho added 5 points and junior Luke Rothermel rounded out the scoring with 3 points.
Rothermel and Carl pulled down 10 points apiece, Mascho made 3 assists and 2 steals, and Keane and Lechler grabbed 3 boards each. Carl also made 5 steals.
Montoursville won the JV game, beating Wellsboro 63-27. Freshman Ransom Schultz led the Hornets with 17 points and sophomore Gideon Lawton added 8 points.
Wellsboro (2-4, 2-2 NTL Large School Division) takes on St. John Neumann on December 30th.
