Rival North Penn-Mansfield scored 2 runs to sweep the season series with Wellsboro on Tuesday, April 23.
"Tough loss tonight, I thought Marek Mascho deserved a better outcome, but that is the way it goes sometimes," head coach Kyle Smith aid. North Penn-Mansfield pitchers threw strikes and kept our hitters off balance. We will regroup and get ready for our next challenge Friday against Athens."
The Tigers struck first in the opening inning as Alex Davis drew a walk with two outs, then later scored, to give Mansfield. the early 1-0 lead. They wouldn't score again until the 6th when Davis drew another walk and scored for the second time on the night.
Wellsboro had chances to score as both senior Caden Smith and Mascho both got on base, with Smith advancing all the way to 3rd, in the 3rd inning. Later in the 4th, freshman Max Mascho and junior Alec Magli put two runners on base, then again in the the last two innings as junior Ryder Bowen and Max Mascho were on base in the 6th and Smith and Marek Mascho in the 7th.
Mansfield held the Hornets to four hits in the game with Marek Mascho leading Wellsboro at the plate, going 2-for-4. Smith was 1-for-3 and was hit by a pitch and Max Mascho was 1-for-3.
Marek Mascho threw a complete game, allowing 2 runs (0 earned) on 3 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.
The loss drops Wellsboro to 2-5 (1-4 NTL Large School Division). The team returns to action Friday as they host a doubleheader with Athens.
