Wyalusing edged the Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team 56-52 in overtime in the Lady Hornets' season finale on Friday, February 9.

The Lady Hornets jumped out to an early 6-0 lead but Wyalusing won the quarter 15-10. The Lady Rams broke open their lead to 21-12 late in the 2nd quarter, then Wellsboro closed the gap and got within 21-18 at the half. Wellsboro outscored the Lady Rams 16-11 in the 3rd to lead 34-32 heading into the final quarter. The final frame was neck and neck down to the wire with Wyalusing edged Wellsboro 18-16, with a pair of foul shots to force overtime.

Both teams only made one field goal in the overtime period, however Wyalusing took advantage of Wellsboro's foul trouble and made 4-of-6 from the line to secure the win.

She also grabbed 7 rebounds and set a new Wellsboro Girls Basketball record with 9 blocks in a game. Junior Chloe Brandenburg added 15 points, senior Emily Morris finished with a career-high 14 points, senior Emily Richardson had 4, and senior Maddy Mascho rounded out the scoring with 2 points and added 5 assists.

Richardson pulled down 7 boards and made 5 assists, Mascho added 6 rebounds, and Brandenburg made 3 assists, came up with a steal, and made 4 rebounds.

"We had a back and forth battle at Wyalusing," head coach Darrell Morris said. "There were so many lead changes. We just came up short in overtime. This group of girls played all year for each other through a lot of adversity. They were a pleasure to coach."

Wyaluinsg swept the evening, winning the JV game 27-15. Sophomore Lily Wagner and freshman Elizabeth Ferero led the team with 5 points each. The JV team finishes the 2023 season 7-6.

The loss in the Varsity game ends the Lady Hornets' season at 8-13 overall and 6-11 in the NTL Large School Division.
