Wellsboro suffered a 44-33 non-league loss to Coudersport on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Hornets kept the game close early on, trailing 9-8 after the first quarter, however the Lady Falcons put together an 18-point 2nd quarter to break open the game and take a 27-14 lead at halftime. Coudersport edged Wellsboro 9-7 in the 3rd, but the Lady Hornets made an attempt at the comeback in the 4th.
Trailing 36-21, the Lady Hornets' defense held Coudersport to just two field goals and 8 total points. Junior Chloe Brandenburg hit a pair of three-pointers in the quarter and the Lady Hornets went 6-for-6 from the foul line, but couldn't make up any more ground.
"We knew we had a big challenge facing Coudersport today," said head coach Darrell Morris. "They have a great program, and their team is big and athletic. We played right with them for three of the four quarters, but we had a rough second quarter on offense and defense, and you can't do that against a really good team. I liked how we battled the 2nd half, and hopefully, that will be a springboard for the final stretch in the NTL."
Brandenburg led all scorers on the afternoon with 21 points, pushing her past 600 for her career. Senior Maddy Mascho added 6, junior Paige Logsdon pitched in 4, and senior Emily Morris finished with 2.
Brandenburg and Logsdon grabbed 4 rebounds apiece, Mascho came up with 3 steals and made 2 assists, Richardson had 2 assists and grabbed 3 rebounds, and Morris had 2 rebounds and 2 steals.
Olivia Fink led the Lady Falcons with 10 points.
Wellsboro won the JV game 27-21, for their second straight win, and improved to 4-5 on the year. Sophomore Lily Wagner led the team with 11 points and freshman Elizabeth Ferero added 8.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 7-9 on the year. The team is back in action at Towanda on Tuesday.
