The Wellsboro Volleyball team opened the 2024 season with a pair of wins over Canton on Tuesday, August 27.
The Varsity team won 3-1 while the JV team won 2-0 (25-8, 25-23).
In the Varsity game Wellsboro edged Canton 25-23 in the first set, then the Lady Warriors flipped the scored around to take the second set, 25-23. Wellsboro rallied to win the third set 25-20, then closed out the game with a 25-14 win in the fourth set.
Seniors Paige Logsdon and Lexi Urena had 9 kills each to lead the Lady Hornets, junior Taylor Main had 9 assists, and sophomore Madison Cruttenden and Urena both made 19 digs. Cruttenden and Urena also led the team from the serving line, scoring 16 points apiece with Urena recording 8 aces.
Logsdon also added 5 solo block and 1 assisted.
Sophomore Blake Eckart added 5 kills and a block and sophomore Ellie Largey recorded 12 points, 8 assists, and 14 digs.
Wellsboro (1-0, 1-0 NTL Large School Division) hosts Sayre on Thursday.
