Junior High Track Teams Sweep Athens, North Penn

Wellsboro swept their home-opening junior high track meet with Athens and rival North Penn-Mansfield on Thursday, April 18.

The girls won with 78 points, followed by Athens (34) and North Penn (25). The boys scored 66 points to beat Athens (39) and North Penn (32).

For the girls Kate Bryant (14.11) and Piper Perry (14.19) took the top two spots in the 100m, Perry (30.81), Bryant (31.20) and Jennifer Belz (31.51) were 3rd-5th in the 200m, and Olive Twoey (1:16.77) and Bella Hawn (1:19.01) wered 4th and 5th in the 400m.

Kaci Kosek took 2nd in the 800m (3:00.74) and 2nd in the 1600m (6:21.03). The young Lady Hornets swept the 100m hurdles with Belz (17.89), Twoey (19.89) and Kosek (20.32) taking 1-3.

Wellsboro won the 4x100m in 56.27 and the 4x400m in 5:06.46.

Lauren Gehman (4-ft, 6), Hawn (4-ft, 2) and June Roth and Isla Twoey (4-ft, tied for 3rd) swept the high jump, Gehman and Dillyn Patt (13-ft, 1) took the top two spots in the long jump, and Gehman (31-ft, 1.5), Isla Twoey (29-ft, 10.75) and Roth (28-ft, 1) swept the triple jump.

Belz (22-ft, 1) and Roth (22-ft) took 3rd and 4th in the shot put while Serenity Mosher (49-ft, 4), Olivia Patt (46-ft, 6.5) and Kaydence Pierce (45-ft, 5) were 2nd-4th in the discus.

For the boys Xavier Lecker was 2nd in the 100m (12.92) and 2nd in the 200m (26.52), Austin DeShazo (1:09.54) was 6th in the 400m, and Fen Moyer (2:39.05) won the 800m with Taitt Webster (2:50.78) in 3rd.

Lane Cozby (6:08.07), Webster (6:09.85) and Moyer (6:17.56) took 2nd-4th in the 1600m, and Liam Stevens (16.54) and Brayden Benjamin (18.16) were 1-2 in the 100m hurdles.

Wellsboro swept the relays, winning the 4x100m in 52.50 and the 4x400m in 4:41.93.

Stevens (5-ft, 4) won the high jump with Octavian Wyman (4-ft, 8) in 3rd, Wyman (15-ft, 2.5) won the long jump, and Benjamin (31-ft, 7.75), Ransom Schultz (30-ft, 6) and Stephen Tokarz (29-ft, 3) finished 2nd-4th in the triple jump.

Schultz (36-ft, 1.5) finished 2nd in the shot put with Conlen Whitsell (27-ft, 1) taking 5th. Whitsell (78-ft, 5) won the discus with DeShazo (65-ft, 9) in 3rd.

The team will be back in action next Thursday at Troy.
