The Wellsboro Junior High Baseball team swept a doubleheader with Wyalusing on Thursday, May 2.
The young Hornets won game one 13-1 and won 8-2 in the second game.
Wellsboro plated two runs in game one to jump out to an early lead, then added 2 more runs in the 2nd, but the bats didn't truly come alive until later in the game, as the Hornets padded their lead with 4 runs in the 4th and 5 in the 5th.
Gage Baltzley (2-for-3), Reed Richardson (2-for-4) and Griffin Morral (2-for-4) led the Hornets at the plate while Gabe Cuneo, RJ Doughtie, Kody Enck, James Doughtie, and Jake Starkweather all added solo hits. Richardson scored 4 times, Morral crossed home plate three times, Baltzley scored twice and Cuneo, RJ Doughtie, Enck, and Starkweather scored single runs.
Cuneo pitched 2 & 1/3 innings, allowing 1 run on one hit with a walk. Starkweather threw the remainder of the game, allowing 0 runs on one hit with 3 strikeouts.
In game two Wellsboro scored once in the 2nd inning then scored 7 runs over the next two innings, 3 in the 3rd and 4 in the 4th, to claim the sweep. Eli Nowak led Wellsboro at the plate, going 2-for-3 while Colton Reese and Eoin Duffy (1-for-1), Reed Moyer (1-for-2), and Logan Johnson (1-for-3) added the rest of the Hornets' hits. Reese and Colton Hauser scored two runs each for Wellsboro while Chase Schultz, Moyer, Duffy, and Caleb Crouse each scored runs.
Wellsboro is at Troy on Thursday, May 9.
