The Wellsboro Junior High Girls Basketball team closed out their season Wednesday evening with a pair of back-to-back losses to Troy and Athens.
Troy defeated Wellsboro 46-20 on Monday. Kya Lawton led the team with 10 points while Haylie Smith had 4 points and Shayla Hamblin, Lena Rothermel, and Paige Rush chipped in 2 points each. Lawton also pulled down 6 rebounds.
On Wednesday against Athens, the young Wellsboro girls dropped a 30-24 heart breaker. Wellsboro trailed 11-4 at the opening quarter but flipped the script with their press to lead 17-15 at halftime. Wellsboro held a three-point, 19-16 lead heading into the 4th quarter, but were outscored by Athens.
Lawton and Rothermel led Wellsboro with 11 points each and Olivia Patt added 2 points.
Wellsboro finishes their 2024 season with a 5-10 record.
