The Wellsboro Junior High Girls Basketball team won games against North Penn-Liberty and Cowanesque Valley before the Thanksgiving break, and fell to rival North Penn-Mansfield this past weekend.
Wellsboro won 32-27 against North Penn-Liberty. Kya Lawton scored 12 points to lead Wellsboro while Haylie Smith added 10. Paige Rush scored 4 points and Dillyn Patt, Olivia Patt, and Lena Rothermel all added 2 points apiece. Lawton grabbed 6 rebounds, Rush added 5 boards, and Smith had 7 steals while Lawton and Rush also added 4 each.
Wellsboro defeated Cowanesque Valley 54-12, led by 18 points from Lawton. Smith added 12 and Shayla Hamblin pitched in 10. Olivia Patt and Rothermel both scored 6 points and Rush added 2 points. Lawton also made 12 steals.
Wellsboro had their two-game win streak snapped Saturday in a 40-14 loss to rival Mansfield. Rush and Smith scored 4 points each, Lawton added 2 points and Rothermel and Dillyn Patt had 1 point each. Lawton also grabbed 4 rebounds.
Wellsboro (4-5) is back in action Thursday at Canton.
