Hornets Shake Off Early NEB Goals, Win 5-2

The Wellsboro Boys Soccer team overcame an early 2-1 deficit to win their third straight game, defeating Northeast Bradford 5-2 on Wednesday, September 18.

Senior Alex Citrino struck just 16 seconds into the contest to give the Hornets an early lead, however NEB scored back-to-back goals in a span of three minutes to take a 2-1 lead over Wellsboro.

"A couple bad bounces and a miscue led to us trailing early in the match," said head coach Todd Fitch. "NEB has an organized defensive line that gave us some trouble, but the boys sorted things out and scored four unanswered goals to come out with the win. We’re looking forward to playing back on our home surface for the next few games."

The Hornets tied the game up midway through the first period as senior Micaiah Fitch converted a cross from senior Jack Bryant. The game remained tied through the rest of the half, until the Hornets broke through with three second half goals.

With 25:32 remaining senior Lucas Cuneo scored off an assist from junior David Seeling to put the Hornets in front. Citrino and Cuneo later scored back-to-back goals in the span of a minute with under 12 minutes left to push Wellsboro's lead to 5-2.

The Hornets out shot NEB 13-8 and had a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior Camden Tom recorded 5 saves in goal while sophomore Kayden Rogers had one save.

Wellsboro (8-1, 6-0 NTL) hosts Hughesville Saturday afternoon.
