Wyalusing defeated Wellsboro 63-59 in overtime following a 21-point 4th quarter performance by the Rams on Thursday, February 8.
The Hornets led 10-7 after the first quarter but the Rams outscored Wellsboro 15-12 in the 2nd to knot the game up at 22-all heading into the half. Wellsboro edged Wyalusing 14-12 in the the 3rd to regain the lead at 36-34 heading into the final frame. In that last quarter the Rams hit eight field goals to outscore Wellsboro 21-19 to force overtime. Wyalusing doubled up Wellsboro 8-4 in the overtime period, with six of their eight points coming from the foul line, to score the win.
Senior Hayes Campbell tied his career-high with 25 points, 19 of them coming in the 2nd half, while grabbing 16 rebounds for his 7th career double-double. Sophomore Aaron Kirk added 9 points off the bench, senior Ian Hoose pitched in 8 points to go along with 4 rebounds, senior Caden Smith and junior Mitchel Lechler finished with 6 points each, and sophomore Luke Rothermel rounded out the scoring with 5 points.
Smith added 6 rebounds and 5 assists, Rothermel made 5 assists and grabbed 4 boards, and Lechler made 2 steals.
Trehnon Hugo led the Rams with 20 points and Parker Petlock added 17.
Wellsboro edged the Rams 29-26 in the JV game, led by 8 points from freshman Ethan Keane. Junior Lucas Cuneo also added 7 points.
The loss drops the Hornets to 12-7 overall. They finish the NTL season 10-6. The team is back in action Saturday evening at Loyalsock.
