Shikellamy shut out Wellsboro 11-0 in six innings in their season finale on Friday, May 17.
"It was an unfortunate ending to our varsity season, but the team played to the finish and that's all we could ask for," head coach Kyle Smith said. "Some nights things just don't go your way and that was definitely the case tonight."
The Braves scored 3 runs in both the 2nd and 3rd innings, added one in the 5th, then 4 in the 6th to end the game early.
Wellsboro had just one hit in the game, a single in the 2nd inning from junior Ryder Bowen.
Junior Gabe Sprouse started and threw 2 & 2/3 innings, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 3 hits with 2 walks and a strikeout. Senior Caden Smith came on in relief for the final 3 & 1/3 innings, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits with 6 walks.
"Looking back at our schedule this season, it's quite amazing we were able to get all 20 games in," concluded Smith. "For that, we are appreciative for everyone who made that happen."
Wellsboro finishes the season 8-12 overall and 7-8 in the NTL Large School Division.
