Wellsboro suffered a 6-0 loss to Towanda on Monday, April 29.
"Dylan Copp gave us a strong start on the mound tonight and the game moved along very quickly," head coach Kyle Smith said. "We couldn't string together hits and Towanda played solid defense. Hopefully the quick turnaround against them tomorrow will help us."
The Black Knights got on the scoreboard in the first as Teagan Irish singled, stole 2nd, then crossed home plate following a base hit from Jack Wheaton. The game remained 1-0 in favor or Towanda until the Black Knights plated five runs in the 6th, again keyed by Irish. Irish led off with a double, followed by four base hits, a walk, and an error to give Towanda the 6-0 win.
The Hornets had four hits in the game, one each by senior Caden Smith, sophomore Marek Mascho, junior Gabe Sprouse, and freshman Coen Tennis. Wellsboro managed to get runners into scoring position three times in the game, but couldn't connect to bring them home.
Copp threw a complete game, allowing 6 runs (2 earned) on 9 hits with 2 walks and a strikeout.
The loss drops the Hornets to 4-7 (3-6 NTL Large School Division). The team turns right around and hosts Towanda this afternoon.
