The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team completed their run through the Northern Tier League schedule, finishing undefeated after edging Williamson 2-1 on Thursday, October 10.
All three goals were scored in the first half.
"We've talked about needing to play with intensity right from the start and that’s what the boys did tonight, scoring in the opening 16 seconds," head coach Todd Fitch said. "Williamson capitalized on a free kick, but beyond that our defenders limited them to just four attempts at goal and Camden kept those shots out of the net. A good ending to our league schedule and our seniors last home game."
Senior Micaiah Fitch put the Hornets up early, converting a pass from senior Alex Citrino for a goal.
Williamson's Aiden O'Neil scored off a free kick with 31:38 left in the opening half to tie the game, however senior Lucas Cuneo scored unassisted with 3:53 remaining in the half to put the Hornets up for good.
Wellsboro took 10 shots on goal to Williamson's 4. Senior Braeden Abernathy and junior Camden Tom each recorded 1 save in goal.
Wellsboro also had an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Wellsboro started off the evening, winning the JV game 4-0 to improve to 10-1-2 on the year. Freshmen Xavier Lecker and Mason Brill scored a pair of goals each on the night while freshmen Brayden Benjamin, RJ Doughtie, and Stephen Poirier assisted.
The Hornets improve to 14-2 overall and finish their league schedule 12-0. Wellsboro travels to Montoursville on Saturday and return to the Williamsport area next Tuesday to face Loyalsock.
