A David Seeling 2nd half goal lifted Wellsboro to a 1-0 shut out victory over Athens on Monday, September 23.
The win completes the season sweep of the Wildcats, and is the Hornets' sixth straight win over Athens and their 9th win in 10 games.
"After giving up 5 goals on Saturday, we were pleased to see our keeper and defensive line keep a clean sheet tonight," head coach Todd Fitch said. "Although we were able to move the ball in our attacking half, Athens did a good job limiting our opportunities at goal. Converting on a free kick was the difference for us in this match."
Seeling scored with 16:29 remaining in the game off a direct kick from senior Micaiah Fitch.
Wellsboro out shot Athens 8-5. Both teams had 4 corner kicks apiece.
Wellsboro won the JV game 1-0 on an unassisted goal from sophomore Dylan Tomlinson.
Wellsboro improves to 9-2 overall and keeps their undefeated record (7-0) in the NTL in tact. The Hornets take the field again Wednesday as they host North Penn-Liberty.
