After a close first half, Wellsboro held the Benton Tigers to just eight 2nd half points as they went on to win 50-26 on Monday, February 12.
The Hornets led 13-12 after the opening quarter but were outscored 6-4 in the 2nd and trailed 18-17 at halftime. Wellsboro rallied in the 3rd, outscoring the Tigers 14-3 to take a 31-21 lead heading into the final frame, where they outscored Benton 19-5.
Two Hornets were in double-figures on the evening, led by senior Hayes Campbell's 2nd straight double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Luke Rothermel scored 13 points. Sophomore Marek Mascho finished with 6 points, senior Caden Smith added 5 points, senior Isaac Macias pitched in with 4 points off the bench, and juniors Mitchel Lechler and Lucas Cuneo had 2 points each.
Smith added 6 assists and 4 rebounds, Rothermel and Mascho grabbed 6 rebounds each, Cuneo came away with 3 steals, and Lechler grabbed 3 boards and dished out an assist.
Graydon Beishline (21) and Connor Seward (5) scored all of Benton's points.
Wellsboro swept the evening by winning the JV game 53-29 behind 14 points from freshman Gideon Lawton.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 13-8. The team is back in action for the final time in the regular season on Friday at South Williamsport.
