Wellsboro suffered their 2nd straight road loss, falling 45-43 to North Penn-Liberty on Monday, January 22.
The Hornets trailed 12-7 after the first quarter and were down 22-15 following a 10-8 2nd quarter by the Mounties. Wellsboro closed the gap with a 16-points 3rd quarter, making it a one score, 32-31, game heading into the 4th quarter.
The Mounties outscored Wellsboro 13-12 over the final eight minutes, going 7-for-12 from the foul line. The Hornets were 4-for-8 from the charity stripe in the 4th and 7-for-15 for the game.
Senior Caden Smith led Wellsboro with 16 points and 4 rebounds while senior Ian Hoose added 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Sophomore Luke Rothermel and senior Hayes Campbell added 6 points apiece, and junior Mitchel Lechler finished with 5 points. Campbell added 9 rebounds and 3 assists, Rothermel grabbed 5 boards, and sophomore Marek Mascho grabbed 3 rebounds and made an assist.
Sophomore Jonathan Carl also added 3 rebounds and sophomore Aaron Kirk dished out a pair of assists.
Luke Kreger led North Penn-Liberty with 10 points and Adynn Wheeland, Louis Mercantino, and Daniel Harman all scored 9 points each.
Wellsboro won the JV game 65-29 to improve to 11-2 on the year. Mascho scored a game-high 25 points in the win and freshman Ethan Keane added 11.
The loss drops the Hornets to 9-5 (7-4 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action on Thursday at Athens.
