Junior Chloe Brandenburg scored a game-high 17 points to lead Wellsboro past North-Penn Liberty, 40-32 in overtime on Wednesday, January 24.
"We played well in the first half and not so well the 2nd half," said head coach Darrell Morris. "We made some poor decisions at the end of the 4th and were very fortunate to be able to go to OT. In OT, we closed it out strong. It was certainly an interesting game with a lot of back and forth runs by both teams."
The Lady Mounties held a slim 8-6 advantage after the first quarter, but a 16-6 run by the Lady Hornets in the 2nd put them up 22-14 at halftime. Liberty rallied in the 3rd, outscoring Wellsboro 11-4 to cut the lead down to a single point, 26-25, in favor of the Lady Hornets heading into the 4th quarter.
Liberty outscored Wellsboro 7-6 in the final frame, knotting the game up at 32-all and forcing overtime, however the Lady Hornets went on an 8-0 in bonus time to secure the win.
Junior Paige Logsdon joined Brandenburg in double figures, scoring 12 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Senior Maddy Mascho added 8 points, 5 assists and 5 steals, senior Emily Morris scored 2 points, and senior Emily Richardson added 1. Morris pulled down 2 boards and Richardson added 10.
Haley Litzelman led the Lady Mounties with a double-double of 17 points, 10 rebounds and 7 blocked shots.
North Penn-Liberty won the JV game 14-6. Freshman Elizabeth Ferero scored all six points for Wellsboro.
The win improves the Lady Hornets to 6-8 on the year and 4-7 in the NTL Large School Division. The team hosts Athens on Friday for Senior Night.
