Williamson scored two first-half goals to edge the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team 2-1 in Wellsboro's season opener on Tuesday, August 29.
"Hats off to Williamson," head coach Todd Fitch said. "They are well coached and were just better than us tonight."
Kade Ficks scored the game's first goal not even three minutes into the match to put Williamson up 1-nil early on. Hayden Plunkert added their second goal with 4:50 remaining in the half to take a 2-nil lead.
The Hornet defense tightened up in the second half, allowing just one shot attempt (7 in the first half). Wellsboro's goal came with 15:52 remaining. Junior Micaiah Fitch scored unassisted to close the score to 2-1, however the Warriors' defense held the Hornets to just three total shot attempts, preserving the win.
Wellsboro won the JV game 2-nil with goals from freshman Kayden Rogers and sophomore Jacoby Strang. Senior Nehemiah Burrous assisted on Rogers' goal while freshman Coen Tennis assisted on Strang's goal.
Wellsboro (0-1, 0-1 NTL) travels to Northeast Bradford on Thursday.
