Wellsboro's second half rally came up short as they suffered a 45-35 loss to Troy on Wednesday, February 8.
Troy built up a quick 13-0 lead before the Lady Hornets got a shot attempt to fall. Eventually Wellsboro went on an 8-5 run to close out the quarter and trailed 18-8. Troy padded their lead before the half with an 11-9 second quarter, taking a 29-17 lead into the locker room.
Wellsboro outscored Troy 18-16 in the second half and cut their lead down to five points several times in the third quarter, but couldn't rebound after the rough start.
Junior Maddy Mascho led the Lady Hornets with 12 points, sophomore Chloe Brandenburg added 11, sophomore Paige Logsdon had 6, senior Ella Posada finished with 4, and senior Hailie Kerr rounded out the scoring with 2 points. Logsdon added 11 boards, Posada made 6 assists and 2 steals, Kerr added 5 rebounds, and junior Hannah Gilmour had 2 rebounds and a steal.
Mascho also had a pair of steals.
Alyssa Parks led Troy with 11 points.
Troy won the JV game 34-13, dropping Wellsboro to 1-12 on the year. Gilmour and junior Emily Richardson had 4 points each to lead Wellsboro.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 7-12 (7-7 NTL Large School Division). The team is back on the court on Friday, February 10 against Wyalusing. It will be Senior Night.
