After trailing at the half, the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball rebounded to defeat Canton on the road, 51-34 for their 4th straight win on Tuesday, January 17.
"We were sloppy in the first half but the boys made the needed adjustments in the second half," head coach Steve Adams remarked.
The score was tied 12-all after the first quarter then the Warriors outscored Wellsboro 17-14 in the 2nd quarter to lead 29-26.
Like Coach Adams said, Wellsboro made some halftime adjustments and held the Warriors to just 5 total points in the entire second half to earn the win.
Senior Peyton McClure tied his personal record with 5 three-pointers on the evening to lead Wellsboro with 23 points. He also moves into 2nd all-time in career three-point shots made in a game with 157, surpassing Will Osgood (155).
Fellow seniors Cameron Brought and Conner Adams were both in double-digits with 12 and 11, respectively. Junior Caden Smith chipped in 4 points and junior Hayes Campbell rounded out the scoring with a point. Brought grabbed 13 boards for his 7th double-double of the season, Campbell added 5 rebounds, Adams added 8 assists, 3 steals and 5 rebounds to his point totals, and Smith added 5 assists and 3 rebounds.
McClure also made 5 steals, dished out 3 assists and grabbed a pair of rebounds.
Weston Bellows (13) and Austin Allen (11) led Canton on the night.
Wellsboro swept the evening, winning the JV game 48-25 to improve to 4-6 on the season. Freshman Aaron Kirk led all scorers with 15 points.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 8-4 (6-1 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action at Cowanesque Valley on Thursday.
