Mascho Named NTL Newcomer of the Year, Four Hornets Selected To Baseball All-Star Team

Freshman Marek Mascho was named the NTL Baseball Newcomer of the Year as the league announced their All-Star team on Thursday, June 29.

Mascho was 4th on the team with 24 hits, scored 19 runs and drove in 14 runs while hitting .364 (.409 slugging percentage). He was also 8-for-9 in stolen base attempts, made 39 put outs and 18 assists (.966 fielding percentage), and turned two double plays.

"Marek embraced the challenge of varsity baseball from day one," head coach Steve Adams said. "He contributed in many roles. He pitched, was a catcher and also middle infield. He swung the bat very well for a freshman coming in to be a varsity starter. Marek is very coachable and has a competitive drive. Those attributes will help him with continued success in his high school career."

Joining Mascho on the all-star team were seniors Conner Adams and Cameron Brought and junior Caden Smith. Adams and Brought were 1st team selections while Smith was a 2nd team pick.

Adams stole 18 of 19 bases this year to lead Wellsboro while being 3rd on the team with 26 hits. He also scored 28 runs, had 7 doubles, drove in 8 runs, and hitting .394 (.500 slugging percentage).

Brought led Wellsboro with 33 hits, 22 runs, 7 doubles, 3 triples and 3 home runs, while driving in 31 runs. Brought hit .485 on the year while compiling a .809 slugging percentage.

Smith was 2nd on the team with 29 hits, led the team with 30 runs scored, and drove in 12 runs. He was 2nd on the team with 14 steals on 15 attempts, made 77 put outs and 13 assists in the field, and was 3-2 on the mound.
