A 16-point 2nd quarter led the Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team past Canton on Wednesday, January 18 for their second straight win.

It was also the Lady Hornets' 3rd win in their last 5 games.

"We started off slowly, but the girls played great in the middle two quarters. Canton is a tough and well coached team, so it was a really good win for us," head coach Darrell Morris said.

Wellsboro trailed 7-5 after the opening quarter but went on to outscore the Lady Warriors 16-4 before the half, building a 21-11 lead. They would never relinquish it.

Sophomore Paige Logsdon led the Lady Hornets with 14 points, sophomore Chloe Brandenburg finished with 9, junior Maddy Mascho added 8, senior Hailie Kerr finished with 5, senior Ella Posada chipped in 4, and junior Emily Richardson rounded out the scoring with two points. Logsdon added 8 rebounds to her point total while Posada had 3 assists and a steal, Mascho grabbed 3 rebounds, Brandenburg added 6 steals and 5 boards, and Kerr grabbed 10 rebounds.

In the JV game, Canton pulled out a nail biter over the Lady Hornets, winning 12-11. Freshman Lilah Parades finished with 6 points to lead Wellsboro.

The win improves the Lady Hornets' record to 5-8 (5-3 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action on Friday at home against Cowanesque Valley.
