The Wellsboro Lady Hornets beat Cowanesque Valley 37-21, in NTL cross-over action on Friday, January 20, to improve their win streak to three games.
"We started well opening up 8-4, but had probably our worst quarter and a half of the year going into halftime," head coach Darrell Morris said. "The girls responded after halftime and we closed the game out strong."
Wellsboro was leading after the opening quarter but was outscored 11-6 in the second to trail 15-14 at the half. Wellsboro then went on a 23-6 run in the second half, holding CV to just two points in the third quarter, to go on for their 3rd straight win.
Three Lady Hornets scored in double figures on the night, led by sophomore Paige Logsdon with 12 points. Junior Maddy Mascho and sophomore Chloe Brandenburg added 10 points apiece while senior Ella Posada pitched in 5 points. Logsdon added 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 blocks, Posada made 4 steals, Mascho grabbed 6 boards, and Brandenburg added 4 rebounds and 4 steals.
Cowanesque Valley won the JV game 18-14, dropping Wellsboro to 1-9 on the season. Freshmen Lily Wagner and Lilah Parades and junior Hannah Gilmour all scored 4 points each.
The win improves the Lady Hornets' record to 6-8 (6-3 NTL Large School Division). The team is back on the court on Wednesday, January 25 at North Penn-Liberty.
