Wellsboro forced 34 turnovers and allowed just five field goals as they defeated Sayre 47-14 on Saturday, December 16, to improve to 3-2 on the year.
The Lady Hornets held just a two-point, 7-5, lead after the opening quarter, but went on a 25-4 run in the second and third quarters. Wellsboro scored 14 points in the second and 11 in the third to build their lead up to 32-9 heading into the fourth quarter. Sayre scored just two points in the second and two in the third in that span. Sayre's final five points came from a pair of foul shots by Abbie McGaughey and a last-second bucket by Meghan Flynn.
Junior Chloe Brandenburg led all scorers with 22 points. She hit 4 three-pointers and was 4-from-6 from the line. Junior Paige Logsdon had 9 points and 7 rebounds, senior Maddy Mascho added 5 points, sophomore Lily Wagner scored 4 off the bench, freshman Elizabeth Ferero pitched in 4 points, senior Hannah Gilmour added two, and senior Emily Richardson rounded out the scoring with a point. Senior Emily Morris grabbed 8 rebounds, Mascho made 4 assists and 3 steals, and Brandenburg added 4 steals and 4 boards.
Ferero also added 4 offensive rebounds.
Wellsboro (3-2, 2-1 NTL Large School Division) hosts Towanda on Tuesday.
