The Wellsboro Junior High Soccer team closed out their regular season with a 3-1 victory over Athens on Tuesday, October 17.
"We couldn't have asked for a better game for our final regular season with our players having a great night," head coach Derek Stevens said. "Watching each of these young people go out and display all their talent and potential was mesmerizing for all of us."
After a scoreless first half the young Hornets jumped out to the lead just over five minutes into the start of the second. Lauren Gehman put the Hornets up by crashing the goal after a shot and put the ball where the keeper couldn't reach. Five minutes later, Liam Stevens scored on a breakaway to push Wellsboro to a 2-0 lead.
Athens cut the lead to 2-1, however Gabe Cuneo connected on a shot from 20 yards out from Xavier Lecker for the Hornets' final goal.
Camden Bryant made 4 saves in goal.
The B game ended in a 1-1 tie, with Connor Hartman scoring in the second half for the Hornets. Samuel Jackson had 4 saves.
Wellsboro improves to 15-0-1 on the year. They are tentatively scheduled to take part in this weekend's Williamson tournament.
