The Wellsboro Junior High Baseball team won a doubleheader in Canton on Saturday, May 6.
The Hornets edged the Warriors 3-2 in the first game and won 14-1 in game two.
In game one Canton held a 1-0 lead until the top of the third where the Hornets rallied with two runs. Wellsboro added another run in the next inning, then held off Canton, limiting them to just one run, in the bottom of the 4th to hang on for the win.
Wellsboro had just three hits in the game. Coen Tennis was 2-for-2 with a double and 2 RBIs while Griffin Morral was 1-for-3. Morral, Tennis, and Gabe Cuneo scored the Hornets' runs.
In game two the Hornets trailed 1-0 after the top of the 2nd, but scored 10 runs in the bottom half of the inning, then added 4 more the next, to cap off the doubleheader victory.
Logan Johnson, Wes Starkweather, Dylan Tomlinson, Jake Starkweather, and Jordan Hines had Wellsboro's hits in the game with Wes Starkweather hitting a double and Jake Starkweather hitting a triple. Johnson drove in 3 runs, Wes and Jake Starkweather drove in two runs apiece along with Jacob Smith, and Eoin Duffy, Tomlinson, and Chace Priset drive in solo runs.
Smith, Tomlinson, and Jake Starkweather scored two runs each. Wyatt Sporer, Johnson, Wes Starkweather, Kody Enck, Matthew Robbins, Stephen Salada, Priset, and Hines all scored solo runs.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 8-4 on the year. The team is back on the field at Williamson tomorrow afternoon.
