The Wellsboro Junior High Basketball teams swept Cowanesque Valley for the second time this season, scoring a pair of wins on Monday, December 11.
The girls team won 36-3 and the boys won 30-16.
In the girls game Lena Rothermel led the Hornets with 8 points and Lauren Gehman added 6. Kate Bryant, Peyton Keane and Teagan Novinger each had 4 points while Emery Butters contributed 3 and Paityn Biery, Rylee Coolidge and Kya Lawton all chipped in 2. Novinger pulled down 4 boards and Keane had 3 rebounds.
The B team also won their game, 39-8. Paityn Biery was the high scorer with 10 points. Jennifer Belz and Aileen Bowers each put up another 8 points. Belz was also the top rebounder with 5 boards and Gena Fleming added 4 boards. The remaining points were a team effort with Maddie Flannery scoring 4, Kya Lawton 3, and Fleming, Rothermel, and Isla Twoey with 2 each.
In the boys game Wellsboro jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Ransom Schultz, Luke Szentesy and Griffin Morral led the Hornets with 8 points each while James Doughtie, Tanner Allen and RJ Doughtie all added 2 points each.
In the B game the Hornets won 21-7 behind 10 points from Keegan VanZile. Cowanesaque led 5-4 after the first quarter but the Hornets rallied in the 2nd to outscore the Indians, 14-5 on their way to the win. Tucker Bencus added 3 points and Blake Knowlton, Lane Cozby, Connor Hartman, and Maddon Mascho all had 2 points.
Both teams travel to Williamson Saturday morning.
