The Wellsboro Junior High Baseball team split a pair of games with Troy on Monday, April 24.
Troy won the first game 9-6 and Wellsboro took the second, 7-2.
The Trojans scored twice in the first inning of game one to take the early lead, but the Hornets rallied to tie the game up in the bottom half of the inning. Troy added a run in the top of the 3rd, then added 6 more runs the next inning to push their lead to 9-2.
Wellsboro got 4 runs back in the bottom of the 4th, but couldn't complete the comeback.
Wellsboro had just two hits in the game, both singles by Reed Richardson and Syler Pietrzyk. Max Mascho drove in a run and walked once, Griffin Morral drove in two, scored twice and walked twice, Richardson scored once, Pietrzyk drove in a run, Coen Tennis scored once and walked once, RJ Doughtie, scored once, Justin Mosher scored once and walked once, and Ethan Keane also drew a walk.
In game two Wellsboro scored 4 times in the top of the 1st and once in the 2nd to build a 5-0 lead. They added 2 runs in the top of the 5th, which Troy matched in the bottom half of the inning.
The Hornets managed three hits and drew 6 walks at the plate in the game, led by Logan Johnson, Dylan Tomlinson, and Jake Starkweather. Starkweather hit a double and drove in a run, Johnson drove in two runs, and Eoin Duffy also drove in a pair of runs. Wyatt Sporer, Johnson, Wes Starkweather, Matt Robbins, Tomlinson, and Jake Starkweather scored.
Wellsboro improves to 6-2 on the season, and return to action next Monday, May 1at Athens.
