The Wellsboro Junior High Baseball team split a pair of games with Northeast Bradford on Monday, April 17.
The Hornets took the first game 16-1 in 3 innings then lost the 2nd, 7-5.
In game one Wellsboro scored a pair of runs in the 1st then exploded for 14 in the 2nd. Syler Pietrzyk went 3-for-3 at the plate with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored to lead the Hornets. Coen Tennis was 2-for-2 with 4 RBIs, Gabe Cuneo was 2-for-2 with an RBI and run scored, and RJ Doughtie, Max Mascho, Griffin Morral, and Izaya Campbell all added solor hits. Mascho scored 4 times while Cuneo, Morral, Pietrzyk, Tennis, and Ethan Keane scored twice.
Tennis went two innings on the mound, allowing one run on 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Morral also pitched an inning, walking two and striking out three.
In game two Wellsboro found themselves trailing 7-1 after the 2nd inning, and rallied with 4 runs in the top of the 4th, but couldn't complete the comeback. Wyatt Sporer was 2-for-2 with a double and a triple to lead Wellsboro while Reed Richardson, Jacob Smith, Eoin Duffy, Stephen Salada, and Jake Starkweather added single hits. Richardson drove in and scored a run, Sporer scored twice, and Smith and Salada also added runs. Salada and Duffy also drove in runs.
Cuneo started on the mound and pitched one inning, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 3 hits with 3 walks and a strikeout. Campbell and Pietrzyk also pitched an inning. Campbell allowed a run on one hit with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts while Pietrzyk allowed one hit, walked one, and struck out two.
Wellsboro (3-1) hosts Cowanesque Valley on Thursday, April 20.
