Athens took a junior high doubleheader from Wellsboro on Tuesday, May 2.
The Wildcats won the first game 8-1 and the second, 2-1.
In the first game the Hornets' lone run was scored in the top of the 2nd by Max Mascho after hitting a double. Mascho's double and base hit by Justin Mosher were Wellsboro's only hits of the game.
Mascho started on the mound, going 2 and two thirds of an inning, allowing 7 runs (4 earned) on 4 hits with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. Griffin Morral and RJ Doughtie also pitched two thirds of an inning. Morral struck out one while Doughtie allowed a run on one hit with 3 walks and a strikeout.
In the 2nd game both teams scored all of their runs in the 1st inning. The Hornets were held to just two hits in the game, one by Cooper Jones (and RBI) and one by Keegan VanZile. Izaya Campbell and Jake Starkweather split time on the mound, combining to allow 2 runs on 2 hits with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts.
Wellsboro (6-4) is at Canton on Thursday.
