The Wellsboro Junior High Basketball teams both scored road wins over Cowanesque Valley on Thursday, November 30.
The boys won 30-14 to improve to 7-1 while the girls won 37-13 to improve to 6-2.
Lauren Gehman and Teagan Novinger lead the girls with 8 points each. Gehman and Novinger were also the top rebounders with 5 and 4 boards, respectively. Kate Bryant had 5 steals and 5 points and Rylee Coolidge and Lena Rothermel added another 4 points each while Paityn Biery, Emery Butters, Ady Frantz, and Hailey Smith all contributed 2 points each.
The B team also won their game against CV, 32-10. Lena Rothermel was the top scorer with 8 points. Aileen Bowers and Gena Fleming added 6 points each. Paityn Biery had 4 points and Hailee Jo Benedict, Maddie Flannery, Shayla Hamblin, and Rosa Sguera all pitched in 2 points each. Bowers was the top rebounder with 8 boards and Sguera had 3 steals.
In the boys game, both teams got off to a slow start but Wellsboro lead 8-4 after the opening quarter. The Hornets went on to outscore CV 22-8 the rest of the way for the win. Ransom Schultz led the team with 12 points, Luke Szentesy added 8, Griffin Morral finished with 6 and James Doughtie added 4.
In the B game the Hornets pulled off a thrilling 14-12 come-from-behind victory. Wellsboro trailed 10-4 at halftime but held the Indians to just two points the entire second half. Maddon Mascho and Keegan VanZile scored 5 points each while Connor Hartman and Blake Knowlton added two points apiece.
The boys travel to Liberty on Monday while the girls play there Tuesday night.
