Wyalusing jumped out to an early lead en route to an 11-3 win over the visiting Hornets on Wednesday, April 19.
The Rams plated 4 runs in the bottom of the 2nd but the Hornets were able to cut that lead in half the next inning. With two outs senior Cameron Brought singled then scored the next at bat as senior Blake Hamblin tripled. Freshman Cameron Owlett, pinch running for Hamblin, scored the next at bat as sophomore Gabe Sprouse reached on an error by the Rams' 1st baseman.
Wellsboro cut the lead down to a run in the 5th after both teams went scoreless in the 4th. Freshman Marek Mascho led off the inning with a base hit then scored on a Brought double in the next at bat, cutting the lead down to 4-3. Wyalusing then got three straight outs to prevent Wellsboro from tying the game, and proceeded to add 7 unanswered runs, 6 in the 5th and one in the 6th, to go on for the win.
Brought led the Hornets at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance with an RBI. Junior Caden Smith and Hamblin were both 2-for-4, and Mascho and senior Conner Adams were both 1-for-3 with Adams hitting a double.
Hamblin, Brought, and Mascho all saw time on the mound with Hamblin credited with the loss. He pitched 4 innings, allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits with 4 walks and a strikeout. Brought faced two batters, allowing 2 runs on one hit and one walk. Mascho threw two innings, surrendering 5 runs on 5 hits with a walk.
The loss drops the Hornets to 5-5 (5-3 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action this Saturday at home against Coudersport.
