Hornets Shut Out NEB 6-0 On Senior Night

On a cold, dreary night the Wellsboro Boys Soccer team scored five first half goals to shut out Northeast Bradford on Senior Night.

"Our seniors are a group of fine young men," head coach Todd Fitch. "They have also been committed and dedicated to this program all four years. It was great to see them play the majority of the game on the field together for senior night."

The first half belong with senior Caden Smith and junior Micaiah Fitch as they combined for four of the Hornets' five goals. The game was scoreless for over halfway through the first period when Fitch took a pass from junior Lucas Cuneo, dribbled in, and sent a shot past the Panther keeper. Wellsboro maintained their 1-0 lead until there were just over six minutes remaining, then the flood gates opened.

With 6:19 remaining Smith scored with an assist from Fitch, then Fitch scored just over 30 seconds later on another assist from Cuneo. Smith scored goal number two with 4:13 left to play, again assisted by Fitch, to push the Hornets' lead to 4-0. Cuneo added the first half's final goal on a penalty kick with 3:02 remaining.

Smith scored the game's final goal, completing his hat trick, with 33:33 remaining in the game.

Wellsboro took 12 shots on goal while holding the Panthers to just one shot attempt in the game, which senior Mitchell Butler saved. Wellsboro also had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.

There was no JV game.

The Hornets improve to 7-2 overall and 6-1 in the NTL following their third straight victory. The team is back in action on Wednesday at home against Galeton.
