The Wellsboro Boys Soccer team cruised to a pair of wins over Galeton on Wednesday, September 27.
The Varsity team won 6-0 and the JV team won 8-1.
"I am very pleased with the opportunities the boys are creating and the goals they are scoring, but I also want to recognize our back line (Micah, Gabe, Braeden, Jack, Watson, and Ian)," head coach Todd Fitch said. "They have only allowed 1 shot on goal over the last two games (160 minutes) and with Mitchell in goal, we've kept two clean sheets."
The Hornets started out with three first half goals, started by senior Caden Smith and assisted by junior Micaiah Fitch. Fitch added a goal shortly after with an assist from senior Jacob Abadi to make it 2-0, then Smith scored again with 12:37 remaining with an assist from sophomore David Seeling.
13 minutes into the second half the Hornet offense struck again, this time Smith assisted junior Lucas Cuneo right in front of the goal to push Wellsboro's lead to 4-0. Just over 10 minutes later senior Nehemiah Burrous scored his first career goal on a shot from the right side of the goal to make it 5-0, and junior Gabe Sprouse put in a header from a Cuneo corner kick with 5:28 remaining to make it 6-0 in favor of Wellsboro.
Freshman Dylan Tomlinson led the Hornets with 2 goals in the JV game while sophomore Jacoby Strang, freshman Mason Brill, freshman Jacob Smith, sophomore Karter Campbell, sophomore Mason Nowak, and sophomore Cameron Owlett added solo goals. Freshman Colin Fletcher assisted on Tomlinson's second goal.
Wellsboro improves to 8-2 (7-1 NTL) following the win. The team is back in action later this evening against Towanda. The game will be the nightcap of a doubleheader with the Varsity girls team playing at 5:30 p.m.
